After the Israeli aggression on the besieged Gaza Strip of Palestine started on October 7 of last year, support for Gazans and Palestine has started to increase recently across Europe. Early in the conflict, the United States and most of its allies supported Israel, with the exception of a few Western countries. Spain and Ireland are among them. This time the two countries recognized Palestine as an independent state. Another western country, Norway, has also announced this recognition.

This time, the East Asian country of Japan is thinking about recognizing Palestine as a state. The country’s foreign minister, Yoko Kamikawa, said this. The news is from the Lebanese broadcaster Al-Maydeen.

Yoko Kamikawa said at a meeting held at the country’s National Press Club in the Japanese capital Tokyo that Japan is considering formally recognizing the state of Palestine based on the progress of the ongoing “peace process” in the Middle East. Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Ghaiti was present in the meeting.

He also said his government supports the proposed “two-state solution” to the decades-long Israeli occupation of Palestine. Japan understands the Palestinian desire to establish an independent sovereign state and supports ongoing efforts to achieve this goal.

Yoko Kamikawa also said, “Regarding the recognition of the Palestinian state, we want to deal with this issue comprehensively, considering how to advance the peace process.”
