Students should wait a bit : Home Minister

আপডেট: July 13, 2024 |

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said about the nationwide movement of students demanding quota reforms, I think they (students) should wait a little and stop the movement. Because there are quotas everywhere in the world. All countries have some backward areas, like we have quotas for ethnic minorities and the constitution also says that. If it is canceled, they will never be able to come into the mainstream of society. We think that everyone can move together.

He said these things while addressing the chief guest at the unveiling of the book ‘Muktijudda Police: Mymensingh District’ on Saturday (July 13) afternoon. The event was organized at Mymensingh Police Lines.

The Home Minister said that the Prime Minister had lifted the quota in 2018. Then the message is coming from the judiciary that the quota will be resumed. Our students are offended by this. In response to their demands, the Chief Justice gave a clear direction, staying the High Court’s verdict. The students have been told to take their case to the higher court. Then the judges will be able to judge.

The home minister said that if the student brothers have something to say, they should come to the court and say what they have to say instead of blocking the roads. If the roads are closed, the suffering of the people increases, the suffering of the patients going to the hospital increases. Wherever they are going, they sit for 5-6 hours if they are interrupted. Students should listen to the expression of that common man. I think, instead of blocking the road, as our Chief Justice has said, they should come to the court and say all their demands.

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said, when children did not go to their parents during Corona, the police went. The police here have won everyone’s hearts. Police not only love the people but also protect the history of the country. The police had no bias in the election. His example is the brother of the current IGP who stood with a boat but was defeated. Police force has performed proper duty in all elections.

Mymensingh Superintendent of Police Machum Ahmed Bhuya gave a welcome speech at the meeting held under the chairmanship of Range DIG Shah Abid Hossain and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Superintendent Mahmuda Afroz Laki.

Sharif Ahmed, Member of Parliament of Tarakanda-Fulpur Constituency, former State Minister of Housing and Public Works, Mohammad Mohit Ur Rahman Shanto, Member of Parliament of Sadar Constituency, Fahmi Golandaj Babel, Member of Parliament of Gafargaon, Muktagachhar Member of Parliament Dr. Nazrul Islam, Mymensingh City Corporation Mayor Ikramul Haque Titu, Divisional Commissioner Umme Salma Tanzia, District Awami League President Ehteshamul Alam and Bir Muktijoddha. Earlier, the Home Minister came to Mymensingh Police Lines and inaugurated 11 projects including the Liberation War Museum of the District Police.
