Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology in Tangail staged a protest march and rally demanding the abolition of quota system in government jobs.

On Monday (July 8) around 11:30 a.m. in front of the library building of the university, Bangabandhu took a protest march from the mural premises and blocked the Tangail-Charabari regional road in front of the main gate. At this time there was a traffic jam on the road. After staying there for about two and a half hours, the students returned to the campus.

The students chanted slogans – ‘Motion of Liberation War, Equality of Opportunity’, ‘Give news to the whole of Bengal, bury the quota system’, ‘The tool of eighteen, let it roar once more’, ‘Jegche Re Jeggeche, Chhatrasamaj has woken up’, ‘Kota na medha, medha medha’. , ‘There is no room for discrimination in Bengal during the liberation war’.

The students said that the quota system in government jobs announced in 2018 should be canceled and the merit-based recruitment circular should be maintained. Subject to circular 18, the commission should be formed to eliminate unreasonable and discriminatory quotas in government jobs (all grades) at the earliest and bring the quota to a minimum level. In that case only backward communities can be considered according to the constitution. Quota facility cannot be availed more than once in the recruitment examination of government jobs and in case of non-availability of qualified candidates in the quota, the vacant posts shall be appointed on merit basis. Effective measures should be taken to ensure a corruption-free, impartial and merit-based bureaucracy.

Ariful Islam, a student of BMB department, said in the protest rally, “We students don’t want to protest on the streets all day, we want to study.” But there is nothing we can do. Because of the amount of quota, the talented people of the country are going out of the country without getting a job. Day by day interest in government jobs in the country is also losing. That is why it is necessary to cancel the quota system.

A student who did not wish to be named said, “Students are being treated unfairly through discriminatory quotas.” We have protested against all injustices before. I will continue the movement until this discrimination is removed.

Mehdi Hasan Rakib, a student of textile engineering department, said, ‘This movement is not an anti-government movement, this movement is a movement to ensure the future of all of us. The movement for the realization of logical demands. We will continue our agitation program peacefully.
