Students are holding various programs including road blockades and protest rallies in Dhaka and outside Dhaka to demand quota reform. Clashes also occurred at different places. The United States expressed concern over the incident.

Spokesman Matthew Miller was asked about this at the US State Department’s regular press briefing on Monday (July 15). In response, he said, the Biden administration is aware of this movement.

Matthew Miller said, “We are aware of reports of hundreds of injuries in massive student protests in Dhaka and various parts of Bangladesh.” We are monitoring the matter.

The Foreign Office spokesperson added that freedom of expression and peaceful assembly are essential elements of any thriving democracy. We condemn any violence against peaceful protesters. Our sympathies go out to the victims of this violence.

However, the spokesperson of the US State Department did not say where he got the information about the death of two students during the ongoing quota movement or how he confirmed it, even though no student was killed in the media of Bangladesh.
