Today marks the fourth death anniversary of legendary playback king Andrew Kishore. On this day of 2020, the path of his music stops. This singer has ruled Bengali music for more than four decades. Played maximum 15 thousand songs in Bengali movies. No one has more popular songs in movies than him. He was known as playback king. Numerous songs of the artist’s voice have become timeless.

Speaking about Andrew Kishore, vocalist Kumar Biswajit told The Daily Star, ‘He was what I mean by a true mega-artist. I joined him as a brother and friend. One of my very favorite artists. Never seen boasting. We have done several songs together. Hanif sang a few times with Andrewa in Sanket’s ‘Etiyadi’ magazine show. Played ‘Swami-Stri Wada’ to my tune. I think he is the king of playback. He used to sing for films with great care. Such artists will not appear in films again. Andrew Kishore’s name will be written in golden letters in the history of film music.’

Andrew Kishore was born on November 4, 1955 in Rajshahi district. His father is Khitish Chandra Barai and mother Minu Barai. Spent childhood and adolescence in Rajshahi. It was there that he initially studied music at the ‘Surbani’ School of Music under the singing master Abdul Aziz Bachchu.

This talented artist was involved in movie songs for 4 decades. In 1977, Andrew Kishore made his debut with the song ‘Achinpur Rajkumari Nei Je Tar Kew’ in the movie ‘Mail Train’ composed by Alam Khan. After the song ‘Ek Chor Jai Chali’ sung by Mukul Chowdhury and composed by Alam Khan, he never looked back.

Andrew Kishore won the National Film Award 8 times. In 1982, he won his first National Award for the song ‘Hayre Mansoor Ranang Phanus’ from the film ‘Bard Bhalo Lok Chila’. The song was composed by Syed Shamsul Haque and composed by Alam Khan. followed by ‘Ami Path Chali Eka Yei Doi Kotete Hande’ in the film Ek Ek Yamsani (1989); ‘Dukh Bina Hai Na Sadhana’ in the film Padma Meghna Yamuna (1991); Kabul (1996); ‘Eyes That Mind Speaks’ in the film Aaj Gaye Hualdu (2000); ‘Sajghar’ in the film Sajghar (2007); Won the National Film Award for Best Singer for the song ‘Ki Jadu Karila’ in the film Key Jadu Karila (2008).

Andrew Kishore sang Hindi songs in the movie named ‘Sooraj’ composed by famous Indian music director RD Burman. Apart from this, he composed two other Bengali songs.
