Britain’s head of state, King Charles III, has appointed Keir Starmer, the leader of the Labor Party who won the UK national election, as prime minister. Kieran Starmer appointed him prime minister when he met the monarch at Buckingham Palace on Friday.

A photo released by Buckingham Palace shows King Charles shaking hands with Starmer. Earlier, he accepted the resignation of Conservative Party leader Rishi Sunak from the post of Prime Minister.

The Labor Party won 412 seats in the election held on Thursday in the United Kingdom. Conservative Party got 121 seats. A party needs 326 seats for majority. Through this election, the Conservative Party left power in the UK after 14 consecutive years.

“Change starts now,” Kier Starmer said after winning the election.

And in his maiden speech as prime minister, Starmer said the people had voted for change and politics in the service of the people. However, this change may take time, he said, changing a country is not a matter of tapping a switch. It will take time. But the work will be started for the change.

Starmer has promised to rebuild the country’s infrastructure brick by brick. Highlighting the need to build new schools and houses, he said, “We need to make arrangements so that working families like mine can lead a life.”
