He said this at the ‘Dicab Talk’ event organized by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association (Dicab) at the National Press Club on Thursday (July 4).

Yao Wen said, Teesta river is on the border of Bangladesh, it is the river of Bangladesh. Bangladesh will take the decision to take up the project in Teesta River. China will respect that decision, that’s all I can say at the moment.

The ambassador said Bangladesh has long had a stable political environment, which is accelerating development. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to China will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries. This visit will create immense potential in the political, economic and cultural fields of the two countries. A win-win situation will be created between the two countries.

He said that China will help Bangladesh to become a member of BRICS. Bangladesh is expected to become a member of BRICS soon.

The ambassador said that China is working positively to bring all parties together to return the Rohingyas to their country. Last year, China, Bangladesh and Myanmar worked on this issue. It is unfortunate that progress on this stalled when the Myanmar conflict erupted in September last year.

When asked how many agreements will be signed during the Prime Minister’s visit to China, the ambassador said that we will have to wait for a few days. However, there will be constructive discussions. The visit will discuss trade, investment, medium and long-term loans, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) project, Chinese investment, resolving the Rohingya crisis, the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war and strengthening multilateral relations between the two countries.

In response to a question, he said, China wants to help Bangladesh to deal with the reserve crisis. I hope that a groundbreaking decision will be made in this regard during the Bangladesh Prime Minister’s visit to China.

The ambassador said that Bangladesh and China are working together for global peace and stability. The same policy in Ukraine and the Middle East, the same policy in world peace and stability.

Chinese ambassador praised the foreign policy of Bangladesh. In response to a question, he said, Bangladesh will maintain good relations with its neighbors, which is what China expects. China has no qualms about relations with Bangladesh’s neighbors.
